Oakland starter Conrado Cruz really did a number on the Mariners today, shutting them out 3-0 on 6 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 8 strikeouts.
In his postgame comments, the Seattle manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Conrado... he did an outstanding job today."
Checking out his stats for the season, Cruz has racked up 10 wins and 13 losses in 31 starts, 4.88 ERA and struck out 213 batters in 203 innings.

 | Monday, September 18th, 2017: Star of the Week Awarded in AL
This week's premier performer in the American League was left fielder Yamid Contrara of the Oakland Athletics.
He banged out a .480 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Over the last week Contrara socked 12 hits in 25 at-bats and 1 home run, drove in 6 runs and scored 5 times.
During the 2017 season Contrara has hit .329 with 17 home runs and 85 RBIs. He has played in 138 games and scored 84 times.

 | Thursday, September 14th, 2017: Injury Takes Toll, Jowett Out 2 Weeks
The Oakland Athletics will lose the services of second baseman Randy Jowett after he sustained a inguinal hernia while running the bases in today's game against the Texas Rangers. When asked about the injury, he took a philosophical approach. "Worse things can happen in life," Jowett said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 2 weeks.
So far this season Jowett has hit .270 with 9 home runs, 49 RBIs and and scored 39 times.
